Eduardo Gil was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

He completes Meteorology studies and is a Commercial Airplane Pilot. He studies the career of Sociology at the University of Buenos Aires of which he desists lacking for four subjects.
The military coup (1976) forces him to move away and start a new life. He embraces the profession of photographer training in a self-taught way. After experiencing different specialties, he turned to graphic journalism and editorial illustration.
He makes long initiation trips through Argentina and Latin America strongly ingrained with aboriginal cultures, impressed by the living conditions of the most unprotected classes on the continent. It is the beginning of his first documentary essays: Latinoamérica and Cementerios de Latinoamérica

1981

-Make his first solo show in Buenos Aires Angelus Gallery

1982

-He began his vast teaching career at the Faculty of Psychology of theUniversity of Buenos Aires and at the Cine Club Buenos Ayres.
-Create and develop an experimental Workshop with patients at the José T. Borda Psychiatry Hospital.

1983

-Participate in and photograph El Siluetazo, one of the most relevant aesthetic-political actions in the history of the continent.
-Create the T.E.F. (Photographic Aesthetics Workshops), the first of its
kind in the country, in which it applies unconventional techniques of aesthetic search and group elaboration, from which some of the most interesting names in contemporary Argentine photography emerge.
-He begins his Photography Courses at the Asociación Estímulo de Bellas Artes that he will develop for twenty-five years.

1984

-He participates in the founding of the NAF (Nucleus of Photographic Authors)
together with Enrique Abbate, Eduardo Grossman, Marcos Lopez, Oscar Pintor and Helen Zout among others, with strong influence at the local level from their founding Manifesto.

1985

-Initiates (argentina) assay that will culminate in 2000.

1986

-He begins his extensive journey as Curator with the exhibition "Argentine Photographers" at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Curitiba, Brazil. View cured exhibitions

1987

-First international invitation as curator and lecturer, to the VI NationalPhotography Week in Ouro Preto, Brazil

1988

-He directs as Curator, for four years, FotoEspacio, the Permanent Photo-gallery of the Centro Cultural Ciudad de Buenos Aires (current Centro Cultural Recoleta). During his tenure, prominent names on the international scene and emerging talents who have their first opportunity are exhibited here.
-Create and direct (until 2008) the Permanent Photo Gallery of the Museum of Plastic Arts of the city of Chivilcoy.
-Organizes and integrates the Coordinating Committee of the "Jornadas de Fotografía Buenos Aires-La Plata´88", the first of its kind in Argentina.
-He is part of the Editorial Committee of the exhibition "ContemporaryArgentine Photography 1960-1988" exhibited at the Palais de Glace in Buenos Aires and then traveling.

1989

-He joins the Black Star Agency in New York, EEUU, to whose staff he belongs for twenty years

1990

-Prologue the book of photographs by Oscar Pintor published by Editorial La Azotea.

1991

-Jean-Claude Lemagny acquires several of his works for the Collection of the Bibliothèque nationale de France.
-He is invited to give a Seminar and show his work during Les Rencontres d’Arles, France.

1992

-Participate as an exhibitor and lecturer at the FotoFest in Houston, EEUU. The invitation will be reiterated in 1994.
Invited to individually exhibit of his work and as a lecturer at the Photo Biennial of Vigo, Spain.

1993

-Conference at the University of Enschede, Holland: "Argentine photography from its origins to today."
-Invited as a lecturer at the Latin American Photography Meeting in Caracas, Venezuela.

1994

-Make a solo show of his work in the Fotogaleria del Teatro General San Martín in Buenos Aires

1995

-Generates El Corte, group urban intervention, then postal action and finally participatory exhibition.
-He is one of the 12 members of the exhibition "100 years of Argentine Photography 1890-1990" curated by Sara Facio at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires.
-He is invited by Christopher Rauschenberg to show an anthology of his works at Blue Sky Gallery - Oregon Center for the Photographic Arts, EEUU.

1996

-Exhibitor and lecturer at Fotogalerie Kulturamt Friedrichshain, Berlin, Germany.

1997

He gives a lecture on Argentine photography at Throckmorton Fine Arts, New York, USA.

1998

-Invited by David Foster, he exhibits his work at the Nortlight Gallery-Arizona State University, Arizona, USA.

2000

-In December, he performs Merry Christmas!, an aesthetic action in the urban space, wallpapering the city of Buenos Aires with premonitory posters of the profound economic and political debacle that would unleash the following year in Argentina.

2002

-Editorial Cuarto 14 publishes his first book, (argentina). Summary of the essay carried out between 1985 and 2000, which constitutes a visual metaphor for Argentina after the military dictatorship.

2003

Jury at the National Salon of Visual Arts of the Secretary of Culture of theNation (also in 2006)

2004

-Receives the Award for Teaching Career granted by the Argentine Association of Art Critics and the International Association of Art Critics.

2005

-Write the prologue for the catalog of the first edition of Buenos Aires Photo: Arte y Fotografia.
-He begins his series Paisajes/Landscapes and Aporias.

2006

-He exhibits Paisajes/Landscapes for the first time at the Recoleta Cultural Center in Buenos Aires and in the same year at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Santiago de Chile.

2007

-Invited to the First Latin-American Forum on Photography organized by the Itaú Cultural Institute, São Paulo, Brazil.
-Invited by the Casa América Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain, as an advisor in the curatorship of the project "Laberinto de Miradas”.
-The Centro de la Imagen of Mexico invites him to give an extensive seminar on Photographic Aesthetics.
-Invited artist, exhibitor and lecturer at the Daylesford Fotobiennale, Australia.
-Invited to the First International Meeting on Contemporary Image, Lima, Peru

2008

-Presents his first video, NosOtros, lasting two hours, at the Recoleta Cultural Center in Buenos Aires.
-Conference at the Aesthetic Research Institute of the UNAM AutonomousUniversity of Mexico.

2011

-He begins his series Señas personales, a performance work in which he documents his irruption into the landscape, which he modifies, building monuments in which he inscribes his genetic trace.
-Participate in the exhibition “Crisisss. Art and Confrontation: Latin American Art 1910-2010” at the Palacio de Bellas Artes de México.

2012

-He is invited to exhibit his work at Newtopia - The State of Human Rights in
Mechelen, Belgium.
-Teacher at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires.

2013

-He is invited by Cuauhtémoc Medina to exhibit at the MUAC Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo de México.
-The MUAC University Museum of Contemporary Art publishes El Siluetazo desde la mirada de Eduardo Gil (Folio MUAC 001) with which its Folios Collection begins
-Exhibits El Siluetazo in the Parque de la Memoria in Buenos Aires with the curatorship of Florencia Battiti.
-He is invited by the University of Princeton, USA, as an exhibitor and speaker at the International Colloquium "The itinerant languages of photography"

2014

He publishes Imágenes de la ausencia. El Siluetazo, Buenos Aires, 1983 book published by the UNTREF University of Tres de Febrero, and prefaced by Estela de Carlotto, Ana Longoni and Florencia Battiti.
-Lecturer at the MIS Museu da Imagen e do Som, São Paulo, Brazil.
-With the occasion of celebrating its 40th anniversary, Blue Sky Gallery in Portland, EEUU distinguishes selecting among 768 exhibitions held there in those years and publishing Early Work - Eduardo Gil as one of the 40 books released to commemorate the event.

2015.

-It is reissued (argentina) in the Argentine Photographers Collection, Dilan
Editores, with a foreword by Eduardo Stupia.

-Receives in recognition of the trajectory of him in the fight for Memory, Truth and Justice of the Provincial Commission for Memory, from the hands of the Nobel Peace Prize Adolfo Perez Esquivel.

- Receives the National Award for Artistic Career, the highest award given by the Argentine State to a living artist.

2021

-Invited to participate in Bienalsur 2021. He exhibits his recent work at the Palacio Dionisi Museum of Photography in the city of Córdoba and at the Paco Urondo Cultural Center of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Buenos Aires
